A Taste of the Islands: The Annual Hawaii Food & Wine Festival

Each year, the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival (HFWF) brings together acclaimed chefs, winemakers, sommeliers, mixologists, farmers, and food lovers for one of the Pacific's premier culinary celebrations.

More than a food festival, HFWF showcases what makes Hawaii's culinary scene so distinctive—locally sourced ingredients, diverse cultural influences, and a deep connection to the land and ocean.

Founded by Culinary Pioneers

The festival was co-founded by James Beard Award-winning chefs Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi, two pioneers who helped shape the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement.

Their approach helped redefine island dining by highlighting ingredients grown, raised, and harvested in Hawaii while celebrating the many cultures that influence its cuisine.

Now in its 15th annual edition, HFWF welcomes more than 200 award-winning chefs, winemakers, sommeliers, mixologists, and culinary leaders across its three-island celebration, attracting approximately 10,000 attendees. The festival has also raised millions to support culinary education, sustainability, and cultural preservation.

The Big Island Experience

Each island brings something different to HFWF, but the Big Island offers an especially memorable setting.

Along the beautiful Kohala Coast, dramatic lava landscapes meet the Pacific while nearby farms, ranches, and fisheries provide chefs with an abundance of fresh local ingredients. It's a setting where the island itself becomes part of the culinary experience.

Big Island festival events have been hosted at some of the Kohala Coast's most celebrated resorts, including Fairmont Orchid Hawaii, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection, and properties throughout the Waikoloa Resort area.

Together, these destinations pair exceptional food with oceanfront settings, Hawaiian culture, and the relaxed luxury the Kohala Coast is known for.

Create Your Own Festival Experience

Rather than one traditional all-access weekend pass, HFWF features individually ticketed experiences, allowing guests to choose the events that interest them most.

Grand tastings bring together numerous chef stations with wine and spirits selections, while more intimate collaboration dinners pair local and visiting chefs for special multi-course meals.

The festival also features wine and spirits seminars, cooking demonstrations, farm-to-table experiences, specialty lunches, and other chef-driven events that change from year to year.

More Than a Food Festival

At the heart of HFWF is a celebration of the people and places behind Hawaii's food—from farmers and ranchers to fishermen, chefs, and culinary educators.

The festival gives visitors an opportunity to experience another side of Hawaii while supporting the traditions and local resources that make the islands so special.

And sometimes, experiencing Hawaii this way leaves you wondering what it might be like if you didn't have to leave.
